In winter, there is no more important staple than a great pair of jeans. They team with all those winter layers, and they are the finishing touch with our ankle boots that I love to wear. Most of us have dozens of pairs (most likely too many) tucked away in our wardrobe. Now is the perfect time to look at your current pile and decide what pieces will get you through the next few months or maybe you need to invest in a few new styles, so you stay current. Distressed, busted at the knee, flared or high-waisted, wear this season's denim with timeless tones, tan, khaki and white to achieve the best effect.

Yes skinnies are still around and fighting strong. Yes, they are predictable but we can't deny they are the one style of jeans that can take you from day to night in a heartbeat. They are also the most flattering jeans you can find; they suit skinny to curvier-shaped girls. Yes, you curvy women that think you can’t wear skinnies, you need to. They slim out thighs, and they draw attention to your calves, which is normally our leanest body part.

We love wearing our skinnies with an oversized shirt; it’s all about creating that balance. Ankle boots, pointed heels, loafers or ballet flats are also my go to. In contrast to other years, when it was all about a light wash, darker styles are the most stylish this year.

One colour that is all over the international runways is grey. It’s the colour of the moment. It is the chic and modern option over simple blue denim when you want a dressier look. You could try rocking an all grey look, or distressed grey jeans are my favourite as they add an edgy element.

This season a key look for denim is the undone look. From jackets, tops and dresses to jeans, frayed edges on your blue denim is the way to go. This trend is best paired with sophisticated pieces like tailored blazers and structured handbags so you don't look too casual and gives a good mix of the two.

A pair of white jeans must be on your denim rotation this year. We can’t live without them as they inject a fresh tone against all the dark colours we tend to wear in winter. As much as I love blue and black denim, we wear them to death as it gets cooler, so it’s easy to get into a rut. If you find all white hard to master then go for a tonal look that incorporates different neutral layers. White jeans also work perfectly with black; we pair ours with a black blazer or oversized knit. If black feels a little too predictable then team it with on-trend khaki

We have seen a move away from loose, baggy style denim that hides your shape. This year we will see a relaxed cut in a midrise fit. It's a classic straight leg shape that always looks great, as you aren't trying too hard. It reminds me of the way French women dress, effortless and carefree.
